Umbrella Program : To protect Vendor’s Health
Mann deshi has given the loan to street vendors and in May month women defaulted the loan. Our recovery officers surveyed the reason for the default and women said that, “we ply our trade in the open market, without protection from the sun. In the summertime, such exposure leads to dehydration and even heatstroke.” Because of the heat women got sick and they lost their working day and loan was defaulted. To protect these women from the heat, in 1999 Mann Deshi Foundation and Mann Deshi’s SHG Federation have started distributing umbrellas as interest-free loans to vendors.
This Umbrella Program is a simple but effective way of protecting one of women’s most important assets-their health.
